Should You Worry About BEARS When Camping?
good review. thanks!
I really appreciate your explanation & links for knots
🙌🙌✌️
Wow! I loved that you were so honest. From what you said it was pretty obvious that the other boys were elite level, super fit, winter athletes. But you kept with them, even though you said ski touring wasn’t your usual game. I was impressed; I know that there is no way that I could have handled 16 or 17 kilometres in a day, with steep climbs and trail breaking thrown in for good measure, even when I was a fit and strong young man. I bet when you finished it must have felt like you were a member of a World Cup winning football team, or something like that! 😉👍
Thank you so much my friend! Yeah having the opportunity to go out with folks that are better than you is such an amazing experience! I can’t wait to go back next winter!
I did that trip back in winter 2018, your video makes me tired and cold all over again. Nice job. We went in summer of 2018 and it was one of the warmest days ever recorded and I think that may have been worse, not a cloud in the sky and barely any breeze, baked!
Yeah very different from winter and summer out there! Thanks for watching my friend!
00:16:58. That orange sleeping bag is looking pretty stained. What happened? Did you had a water spillage? Whether you did or you didn’t, thanks for a great videos, guys. 👍
Thanks my friend! The day I bought it… 20 years ago I spilled my candle light on it…
@@martymorissette In which case, that ‘baptism in the spirit’ has served your sleeping bag well and helped to keep you protected. 😅 To have had 20 years of service from it shows that that company makes high quality gear, capable of helping to save your life, even though you could quite feasibly have had a child and then a grandchild in the interim!
I think i watched the Siberian Hitch at least a dozen times before i figured out the bight/slip knot part. It was so very worth it. thank you!
a lot of comments about what to bring in an emergency bag…hikers literally carry emergency bags on their back. it’s like 80% overlap with what you’d use in an emergency especially if you have to leave your home on foot. a lot of this has been figured out already, just do what they do (with the correct environment/conditions in mind)
Marty giving away his thumbnail secret sauce!! 😂 Great video dude. Got me stoked for this season.
lol thanks my friend! should be a good season!!!!
Just happened to have a camera for this unrehearsed / worthless vid .
I love my lanshan, it does take a bit of practice to get the pitch right.
Hammock camping is the best !!! I really wish more poeple would try it !
🙌🙌🤘🤘🙏🙏
Top Tip - Regarding your comment about facing away from the wind. You actually need to be diagonally facing so your tarp does not turn into a sail. Equally, if you're making a fire you have the luxury of oxygen breathing into your fire while the smoke is blown away. Great video though. Subbed
Awesome video, enjoyed seeing you out with Maxim. Great food especially the fondue…yum!! Thanks for sharing your stories about naming your vessels. Cool to hear those details.
Thanks Lucie :) i wasn’t sure if it was too long… lol I almost cut it!
Thanks for sharing a beautiful trip and, providing your backstory about how you developed so much skil in whitewater. I really appreciate your insights and, how you make it look easy showing the fun stuff as well as your detailed risk assessment when facing challenging water. Great video Marty, happy to subscribe from Detroit, MI.
🙌🙌✌️ thank you brother!
Thanks for sharing this adventure. I watched Max's version and you guys have a similar calming style. How good did those sandwiches taste next to that campfire?! Subscribed.
Thank you my friend and those sandwiches were amazing!!!!!
How I wish I had that dry suit haha! I think I have no choice but the name my canoe : reed It bends but it doesn’t snap! 😂. You know the story hahah
😂😂
It was worth it, it's a top notch thumbnail! Love it! The solo canoe is so much better for me paddling on the ocean, I've had mine in 3' pyramid waves and felt in control. The tandem is almost impossible to steer in that situation not to mention the water it takes on.
Thanks my friend :)
A space blanket next to you then a thin flannel blanket then a wool blanket would work well together
Bivys are really made to be used with a sleeping bag not just the bivy A bivy and a space blanket would be a bit better then just a bivy ....bivys alone arn't what they're made for ..... The layer effect and trapping your body heat ....space blankets reflect your heat back at you
If need be find a bunch of tall skinny conifers you can bend over and tie them together the more the merrier and then you can cut some branches to add to make a quick shelter Perfect example is where you set up your sleeping area you could have easily bent over several trees on either side of where you slept and then added more cut branches .... Quick and easy not burning a lot of calories
I have seven Canoes each named after a beloved dog. Each matching their characteristics and relative size. It just worked out naturally. But, I ran out of names so I guess seven boats it will have to stay. Great video! I share a similar experience with whitewater and have returned to more technical class 3+ after about 20 years of more mellow class 1/2 river tripping. We have a great club in Missouri and an amazing river, The "Saint". Our whitewater clinic is attended from all over and has excellent instructors. The people around you make all the difference. Stay dry!
That’s great! Thanks for watching!
These great times your having with your children build wonderful memories that they will take with them throughout their lives ❤️ 😊
❤️❤️
I am real impressed with how well your daughter's paddle & manage the rapids with your guidance 🙏 good job Dad 👍 your doing an amazing job 👏 ❤😊
They are little troopers :) thank you!
Nicely done gentlemen. There are some really nice campsites along that stretch. Did you consider running Ryan's Chute? I portaged it too, but was on the fence, as I've seen it done before.
Didn’t really consider it to be honest… always fun to look at the possible line but wasn’t really doable on that day IMO
Thanks for watching brother :)
@@martymorissetteRight on. Great video. Looking forward to more.
Bonne saison ! Comme toujours, une très belle vidéo Marty
Merci tu es gentilles :)
Hammocks rule!
Indeed!
That ledge in Red Pine has caught a lot of people off guard, it has terrible viewpoint from up stream. I love the Dumoine, have run it many times in many different water levels, but never with shore ice! Great video as always! Glad to see you back on the water. Happy paddling!
Was that the ledge where I was fixing my camera? Also what what’re level would you say that is? High/low? Thanks for watching my friend :)
Hey man Wendel here. Your video is awesome. You caught more/different things here. Love the way you narrated the rapids. Enjoyed the history of you naming your canos. I have a kayak but have never named it as of yet. I would have to call her Tammy after my late wife. She was truly my rock. She battle breast cancer and never once complained. When we camped we actually glamped lol she wasn’t one for tent camping lol but now I tent camp and kayak fish as well. I really look forward to more of your videos. As you over came your fears after having some ruff times in the water I am over coming my fears without the love of my life. As always man safe travels🩷
❤️❤️❤️ thanks for sharing brother. Tammy is a great name for a boat :) I wish you well
Certainly don't need a click-bait photo to entice views. Your content never disappoints, and this video is no exception. Thanks for sharing!
😅😅 thanks my friend! I honestly thought I could ice break through it at first hahaha had a good time!
Awesome! You got to see what open waters really are man. Come to Georgian Bay, the stretch between Franklin Island to Phillip Edward Island in Killarney. It is stunning.
Thanks man! Yeah I bet you it’s pretty stunning out there! One day!
Great video. Love the Dumoine. My boats are named Evenflow (big pearl jam fan) for my solo whitewater tripper, Waterlutionary, named by my daughter for a esquif Nitro that I outfitted for tandem use (me and one of the kids) and La Belle Sauvage for my Esquif Ledge. Name stolen from a canoe named in a Philip Pullman book.
that's awseome!!!! thanks for sharing my friend!!! La belle sauvage has a nice sound to it!!!
Good job boys!
Thanks bro! Can't wait for us to paddle a river together!
I call my boat “Freedom 56” I bought it after I retired at 56 years old. Cheers!!
Nice lucky for you to leave this early!!! that's awseome!
What brand is that kettle?
the link is in the description it's from fire maple. I absolutely love it!
@@martymorissette Right on! Ty
Marty's white water action at his best ! Where Max video was more focus on nature , Marty's brings the focus on the water and we dive with him for some white water fun . A very well edited video with beautiful shots . And we can't ignore the succulent meals he prepares in the woods ... and the proverbial story telling he alway's have in stock for us , now we know where the names of his canoes came from . Glad you could go out this early for a trip . Thanks for sharing !
My friend thank you so much for your kind words :) cheers!
Nice video!!! So pretty there!
Thnk you! it is very pretty on the dumoine!
Love from Turkey❤🙏🇹🇷

that's so cool to see ou with your duaghter going out in the cold !! My girls love to be in the wood to !
thanks man!
Marty this is the first video I have watched by you as I am a new subscriber. I watched the video of you and Max. This video was I think the was the best first one I could have watched. See you with your daughter brings me back to when my 3 kids were her age and we always went camping. Enjoy them while they are young. Now I bring my grand daughter and grand son camping now 😊❤. I will be watching as meany videos of you that I can. Peace and safe travels man Wendel from south Louisiana USA
That is so kind of you :) thank you so much for the compliments :) I’m posting my version of the video either tmr or Friday!
Now if they could only make one for ticks.
Great video, will learn that siberian hitch, new one for me!
Collinsoutdoors has metal horns, which I replaced with plastic horns so I don’t have to worry about temporary breakage.
A great addition.
Necessary upgrades are the most valuable.
I may need this, now with a carabiner.
